On Tuesday, May 24, more than 25 YPN members attended an exclusive ‘Coffee with the Mayor’ event, hosted by Bismarck Mayor Mike Seminary, at Peacock Alley. Members enjoyed coffee and visited with the mayor about topics concerning young professionals in the community. Topics discussed were affordable housing, rental housing, Mayor Seminary’s leadership journey, underfunded projects in Bismarck and future community development.
Mayor Seminary encouraged young professionals to “get up and say something” on issues that affect us all. He mentioned volunteering for the Planning and Zoning committee spots, attend more community events, voicing
your opinion on social media, and attending city commission meetings. He also added that life is all about relationships, which he learned from his father. Young professionals need to get involved and make “deposits” in the community, not withdrawals. It is important to give back to the community in which you live, stay relevant by learning, and by asking questions.
Mayor Seminary holds “Coffee with the Mayor” once a month at various locations around Bismarck. Thank you, Mayor Seminary for hosting such an informative event for the the Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network!
